CGD molding??

sebastian924 Mar 09, 2005 12:36 PM

I was checking on one of my juvie cresties today and was shocked to see his gecko diet covered in mold! I had only left it in there for two nights, I mist it down so he can eat it again. I always do this, they eat it up, and never have I had any problems with mold. The critter keeper I keep him in is spotless. Any ideas?

too high of humidity
not enough aeration
don't spray the gecko diet, they'll usually eat it dry if they want to.

i usually just spray around the crested gecko diet and am careful not to spray it for this reason.

. . . how wise it is to let them eat moldy food.

Best to toss what they don't eat in 24 hours. I only feed mine 3 times a week or so.

Another suggestion - make less product. I used to fill up those 2 oz cups (Allen R. must love me!) - but that's stupid, because it would get moldy from being uneaten. So I give them just about 1/4 to 1/3 of the cup. They readily eat it up - and I don't have any mold.

Mold is Mr. Yuck!!!

I usally take the CDG out after 24 hours. I never leave it longer than 36. I believe it says that on the instructions but I could be wrong.
