Tank Size

pantala41 Mar 09, 2005 01:19 PM

Hey I was just wondering what a good tank would be for an adult yellow. I am building a custom tank for him at school. Right now he is a juvenile but still growing, and I would like to start on the cage now for when he is older. The space I have to work with is only 35" side to side, 22" front to back, but i have 71" of height to work with. So with that in mind, any suggestions on how to go about doing a tank for when hes full grown? Also, with the money I will spend on materials and difficulty of making a tank, should I get one custom mad. By the way, its the schools money...thanks for your input.

P.S.- Any general info you may have on keeping a yellow, lemme have it. (Temps, himidity, water bowl size, etc.). Would a mister/fogger be a good idea? I have unlimited funds so I want to go all out. I got my own Dumerils at home, but never owned an Anaconda, so thanks for startin me off!

I am no anaconda specialist but you do not have enough floor space for a full grown anaconda, not even close near as I can tell. That isn't even six square feet of floor space. I know most keepers have at least 16 ft square for their large snakes. You need to find some more space if you are really going to be keeping this snake there until it is an adult.

hey, from what i've been told an anaconda needs alot more floor place then hight and was also told that for a male yellow a cage 6x2x2 would work for a decent sized one.

Yea thats a good point. I was just looking at the spot we have for it again and it really doesn't make any sense. I do appreciate your ideas, does anyone have any answers to that other stuff?
Thanks a bunch guys!

Go bigger than 6x2, he'll be real cramped up in with t hat 2 foot width, my cages are 6x3x18" and work great for all my large boids.

The temps are the same with most snakes but the humidity should be higher 60-70% is a good average range. I have a adult yellow in a 4x2x2 and he is fine, well when I say adult I mean 6 foot plus they dont get too much bigger then that on average. I also have a largeer water dish in there for him to slosh around in. The cage on the bottom is my yellows cage, see he looks to be fine in there.
