I've got two shells that I keep for educational purposes - I've
taken them to schools. Mostly this big one I keep in a box
in the attic storage area. I have a small one (next pic.) that
sits right side up on a shelf amongst billions (yes nathan) of
other turtle collectibles on billions of other shelves. You'd
never know that one was a "real" one. I got both at seperate
yard sales, each was $1 and I just figured I'd keep them for
something so they wouldn't have died in vain. The big one was
from an army guy who brought it back many years ago from
Honduras and the small box turtle from an old neighborhood
yard sale that said they had turtles running around and they
found it (I bleached it also).
I think it's facsinating the way the spine shows up inside and
actually on the shell. I hope this doesn't creep any one out
and I don't display this one but I think she serves some purpose
beyond her days if anybody learns anything from it, even (especially)
sympathy for turtles taken for food, which is what I'm sure happened
to this one in Honduras.
