i keep a baby collared in very large cage with an adult desert iguana. they get along very well.i think my collared thinks hes a desert iguana, because he does everything the desert iguana does.he has his own side of the cage with a rocky habitat and a basking spot, but he prefers to hang out in the sand with the desert ig.besides eating crickets and other insects i also see him eating greens right next to the desert iguana.im not saying iv'e seen him just do it once, but many times. the collared lizard even shares the same burrow in the sand with the desert iguana.its very strange.i just wanted to make sure its even safe for a collared to be eating vegetables. because it doesnt seem like a natural thing for them to do.

well i think if he switched completely to veggies it would not be so good for him, but i think he is ok eating them. i put a piece of greens in the cage once to lure some stray crickets and my lizard attacked it like it was going to eat him. he has never done it since and it did not make him sick. however, i feed greens to my crickets which are then eaten by the collareds so it is just extra nutrients for them

I have always offered a small pile of veggies. Some will nibble them, greens, and shredded carrot, and shredded apple seem to be liked by a few.

And my desert iggy spends alot of time on the floor basking area, with my collareds when they come out for a run.

They lay on him and everyone seems happy

Hershey the desert iggy sits with Ponca

Both of Dexter's vet actually recommended veggies for him... they said the dark ones such as collard greens, spinich, etc...

These guys can grow in Tennesse, etc... and their are lots of greens down there... it would be natural... even to eat sphagmum moss... which my vet also recommended to put in the tank.. although more for humidity...

Just cut it up nice and small... it's good for them and provides a varience in food!
