sand alternative?

itsazoo Mar 10, 2005 11:19 AM

I have a Jeweled Curly Tailed Lizard that had been on sand since December. After an incident with his (now former) cagemate had a pretty bad tail injury and has been moved to paper towels while healing. In this time it has become apparent to me that he had been ingesting very small amount of sand. Is there a good alternative that will still allow him to burrow but be safer for him? I had thought about dried Bed-A-Beast but didn't know how that would work.

I don't think bed-a-beast is ideal here. Don't Curly Tailed Lizards require generally dry condition with just a trace of moisture? I think I kept one of these in the 80's and that's now I did it.

I would ask on the appropriate kingsnake lizard forum if you haven't already.

I'd also ask on the lizard forum, but i've heard good things about calci sand. Supposedly the same type of thing, but it's safe if ingested.
