Got my leos crix, now what?

GeckGirl Jul 08, 2003 05:36 PM

Hi everyone,
I purchased 100 crickets for my leos today. I placed about half each into a plastic critter cage. Each container has CalciSand as a substrate for them. They have GutLoad cricket drink, and some of my dog's crushed Bil-Jac dog food :O) Is there anything else I need to do to keep them healthy? Thanks a lot.

Crickets need things to climb on or else they pile on top of one another and get crushed by their own weight (their pretty dumb). Egg crate pieces work great for them, as do toilet paper rolls. You don't need to use the calci-sand if you have egg crates for them to climb on...i just leave the bottom of the bin bare (no substrate) since they seem to stay in their food dish or on the egg crates. I would also offer fresh veggies every other day for nutrients that they can't get from a gutload.

I agree no need to put crix on calci-sand just egg cartons or toilet paper roll will work. Don't know about dog biscuits as gutload but you can give them carrots or dark leafy veggies and a slice of orange for water.

go to my website I have a cricket care sheet there, that'll help you. Also I do not recommend that you keep your crickets on sand, they may eat that. Keep them either on nothing or paper towels for substrate, thats much better.
Just remember...what goes into your cricket-goes into your leo.
