Mali Uro not eating much

jglass38 Mar 10, 2005 12:27 PM

In the last couple weeks, my Mali hasnt been touching his greens much and has not been out basking at all. Of course I am gone all day and he could be coming out, but I am not sure. I have been feeding him a couple mealworms twice a week so he at least gets some nutrition. I dont know what is wrong with him. The heat, light etc is fine. Any ideas to get him going again?

Thanks!

Jamie

It is possible he has a parasite infection. Is he losing weight? Whats your set up?

Have you tried peas? Offer a mix of peas and tortoise or juvi iguana diet and don't forget to dust them. This is great to help acclimate and and weight. Keep us posted.

Hi Jamie,

You need to give us more information if we're going to be able to help you effectively. How long have you had the mali? What have you been feeding him (type of greens, etc.), how much and how often? What kind of temps. do you have in the vivarium, specifically at the basking site, and are you using a UVB output bulb? Do you supplement with D3, and if so, what kind of supplement do you use?

Here's a link to a very complete care sheet. Give it a read and see if it gives you some ideas. Hope the care sheet helps. Let us know if you have specific questions that the caresheet doesn't address.
