Mite spray?

peachstategeckos Mar 10, 2005 03:57 PM

Okay, So I've seen this mite spray stuff at alot of dif pet stores and I was wondering does it actually work? All you do is spray it on the animal and it's supossed to "kill" the mites. There are alot of products out there that don't even work (like shell conditioner for turtles) so I was wondering if this is one of them..lol.

I dont know about all mite sprays but the one by Natural Chemistry really worked when i got my Plated Lizard, he was a resuce and had mites bad. Sure enough like it said on its lable it killed all the mites on contact. I dont know about other sprays but some do work better then others, the one i used in know goes for $12 at petco but i think i got it at a reptile show for alot cheper.

Why would you need mite spray for leos???? It is rare to find a leo infested with mites..... Actually there is no reason why mites would even bother with leos because the do not have overlapping scales for mites to hide in a feed.....

I didn't say I needed it I was just wondering if any of you knew if it worked.

Hello, I jus wanted to say that a few weeks after I bought my Agama from my local pet store, I had noticed that she had mites. Being new at owning a reptile, I asked for advice on how to treat her for them.

I was told to us mite spray, so I went to the petstore and purchased DE FLEA Reptile Reflief by Natural Chemistry. Instead of spraing it on, I dabbed it on the mites with a Qtip, almost right after application I proceeded to gently pry the mites off her with tweezers to find that they were indeed dead!

I then went on to empty the sand and take out all her logs and rocks to bleach everything out. This one imparticular brand I have says you can also use it to treat in and around the terrarium.

I was also told that dabbing some olive oil on the mites with a cotton swab kills them, scince they suffocate(and the oil is not bad for your reptile). Soaking in lukewarm water is also good.

Anyhow, hope this helped....

I don't remember the brand that I used...but when I got my iguana he was horribly infested with mites. One really good spraying later (both him and the furniture) and they were all gone! All I had left was a very grateful iggy!
