Question about medicine for iguana

ig_daddy Mar 10, 2005 04:29 PM

My 4 year old female iguana, Iggi, has had no appetite. She didn't feel like she had eggs, so we took her to a herp vet. The vet examined her fecal float, and said she had parasites in her intestines, and gave me Panacur to give her. My question is, does the Panacur kill the beneficial microorganisms in her hindgut, too? The medicine is given for 5 days, then wait 2 weeks, then 5 more days. Is there a way to reintroduce the microorganisms? Thanks.

Hi Lamar....there is something on the market called Nutribac that is supposed to bring back the beneficial bacteria....because antibiotics do in fact kill off all the bacteria....good luck with your girl and I hope she starts eating for you soon....Lyn
