help with ongoing battle with ticks

veefour Mar 10, 2005 06:32 PM

I've tried it all....as far as I know.
I've been using ZooMed's tick remedy as of late, as well as using "Reptile Relief" which claims to be effective on ticks as well but I use it for mite control, however the ticks are still coming. I get plenty of dead ones, but there is always more. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I feel like I'm trying to ice skate uphill.

Sounds to me like your infested. The first thing I would do is find a friend to hold onto my animals. Second I would address the problem inside and out. Starting inside I would bug bomb the house. Then I would move out doors and treat the yard with a pesticide. I would also consider asking my neighbors if they have the same problem and then see about treating thier homes and yards the same time you do. If you have cats and/or dogs; you gessed it; they need to be dipped.

Full on chemical warfare! Give it a couple of days to air out, and then go pick up your animals.

Man, that sucks. Good luck, Quinton

The ticks live on the snakes and not much of anywhere else.

The two methods mentioned by the OP aren't really that effective against ticks.

Snake ticks will not be found in your yard or anywhere else around your house unless you live in florida maybe.

Try using a dilute ivermectin spray on your cages, animals, and surrounding areas. You can get ivermectin from your vet or from a well stocked farm store like farm and fleet. This will not harm your snakes in diluted form. I believe you take one ml of a 1% solution into one quart of water. Spray once a week for a month and get rid of all the bedding and replace with newspaper until this month is over. This should kill all ticks and mites 100% and they should not come back. But you should check around the eyes and under the chin as sometimes they can hide there for quite a while.
If i got the dilution wrong someone correct me, but I am pretty sure that is right.

Good luck

"Ticks live on the snakes and pretty much no where else"

??????????

I'm no "tick expert" but you mean to tell me that when a tick is done feeding he/she just sets up residence on the snake?

Nowwww I know where those little bitty real estate signs are comming from. For the life of me I couldn't understand it. I'd wipe em' off my snake and the next day they were back. Thanks, that explains alot!

LOL, I think once they feed they lay eggs and die off. But that was funny.
