atb weird breeding fight

I was breeding my amazon pair after my female just shed. The male got very exited and began to rub along the female and they bred. The next night I look in and the female has the males hed in a death grip. I broke them up and the males jaw was hanging open and didnt really close. The vet said the male had nerve damage (hopefully temporrary). The female had a few wounds on the neck. What do you think.
