I'm thinning out some of my collection so today I took the ones I'm thinking of parting with outside for some photos. I don't know why I've never taken them outside before but it was very interesting.
I started with one of my female BRBs, I placed her on a tall stump and the fun began. The wind was blowing and for whatever reason she seemed to think it was after her she swung around striking at it and fell off the stump. Then she was off to the races she moved out as fast as she could throwing the front half of her body out for more speed, I will post a photo of what she was doing it's not very good as she was moving and I was trying to stay in front of her. BRBs are not very fast but funny when they get going, she was happy when I picked her up and held onto my arm for dear life till I put her away. Next was her partner I placed him on a large low stump(didn't want any more flying RBs) and he balled right up the big chicken. he lay there for a good five minutes before taking a look around and never moved from the top of the stump.
Next up was one of my female Campina Grande's, I put her on the same low stump and she was very still for a while but then moved around and made her way to the ground. She explored the grass for a while and I got some good photos showing just how much more iridescent they are then the other RBs. She didn't seem to mind being out. I brought out the male CGRB next and put him on the same stump, he like the female was still for a while then began to explore, I got some good shots of him and he even glows more then the female.
I brought out one of my pairs of Guyanan's and these little snakes had a blast they began exploring right off and kept burrowing under the grass as they moved along. A Robin landed near the male and he showed a lot of interest in it when he caught its scent. He lifted his head and then moved low under the grass trying to find it. The Robin noticed him when he got within 3 feet or so and watched him for a second then deciding that it wanted no part of wormzilla took off. The male kept going till he got to where it flew and began searching trying to find it, he just couldn't believe it was gone lol.
After I was done with them I decided to bring out a couple of my Trinidad RBs and get some pictures of them as well. I started with my largest WC female who is the tamest snake I have. I put her on the high stump thinking that other then the first BRB the others had done pretty well. Guess again lol she sat there for a minute then started striking at the air in all directions. I picked her up and she calmed down so I tried it again and she seemed OK and worked her way down the stump giving me some good shots. Next I brought out my CBB female and went to the short stump again, she seemed fine and after a few shots I moved her to the tall one where again she was fine. I brought out my young male next and he was nervous but didn't come unglued, again getting some decent shots of him. Last I brought out my youngest a WC female and she did fine at first but then decided she was heading out. She was going for all she was worth but didn't throw herself like the BRB she was another one happy to be picked up.
It was interesting to watch how each one acted outside and fun to watch the GRBs exploring and trying to hunt, they seemed to enjoy it where some of the others couldn't wait to get back inside. What was strange was the reaction of the CBB BRB and the largest WC TRB females. I could sort of understand the BRB being freaked out but the TRB was in the wild just over a year ago and should know what a breeze is. I'll post a couple photos I would post more but it's a pain resizing them to post here.
