I have a couple guentheri,I keep them in pretty much the same conditions as my phantasticus,I find their really easy to keep and they are little pigs.

Try getting a hold of Neil as well. Wicked's input is useful but atleast get two or three people's techniques this way you can compare and contrast and take everything into consideration.

If you don't mind where did you order them from?

cheers
jason

Jason

Thanks for the advice i will e-mail Neil now and see what he says. I am getting them from a good friend that I served with in the Army who is leaving to go over seas and cant take them with him. I am getting his whole colection form him. He got the guntheri as imports and has housed them seprately I dont have any other information yet I will be picking up them and a few satanics and some mossys when I get back form Iraq in April. I wish I could bring some of the neat spider geckos home that I have seen here. But the Army will not let me. What Uros do you keep?

Wicked

That is what I am getting form the guy that is selling them to me. I was thinking of doing the same with them, and just clone the set up I have for my satanics. Have you tried to breed them and do the males fight? I am getting a 3.4 group and I would like to set them up in one tank. I have an awsome 100 gal( I think it is 100 it might be more) Lizard lounge that I have been dying to kick my crested geckos out of.

Thanks for the advice

Why not ask the breeder, hobbyist, broker, salesperson, pet store or company from where you're getting Uroplatus guentheri for care information? That should be included with purchase or better yet, before your geckos arrive.

Click the "search" button on your computer.

Buy a book.

Im pretty sure everything in north america can be traced back to Neils line........

GeckoMike Mar 12, 2005 07:58 AM

Travis,

I am not geting them from Neil. I would love to get some of his geckos! He has some of the most awsome Uroplatus geckos I have ever seen. I am getting them form an old friend of mine form the Army who is moving out of the states, and cant take them with him. I should be getting 7 of them and I am not sure but I belive that it is a 3.4 group that he has. I wont be getting them untill April but I will post lots of pictures when I get them.

Thanks

Nick,

I am not sure what to say to this. I was looking for advice from people who have the geckos not a rude "buy a book" I did ask the person I am getting them from and he gave me his advice but I am not one who goes with the first opinion. These geckos where quite expensive and I am not looking to loose them because one person told me wrong. I wanted to make sure that I was doing the right thing so that I could keep my pets healthy and happy. If you had read the post you would have seen that I am getting them in soon. I guess that would mean that I don’t have them yet. So I guess I have accomplished the "before your geckos arrive" that you so nicely suggested. Just for future reference don’t tell people to click the search button on there computer. That was just childish. I came here for advice from people who respect each other not someone who wants to act like a child who is mad at their dad for taking away their bike. Do me a favor next time you see a post from me dont bother to reply to it. I am not looking for rude coments from someone. I am looking for advice on my geckos.

Hi Mike.
I have 2,2 U. Guentheri, and have kept this specie for 2 years. The specie comes from NW Madagascar, where the temperature is higher, than you usualy see in Mada. Therefor U.G. needs temps varying from 24-30 degrees Celsius (Sorry, Im from Europe) They need a 3 month period with a bit lower temps, where the humidity are lower as well, means about 60-70%, rest of the year 75-85%
The coolest temp registered in the area is 13, and the max 39, but this is offcause not anything you want to try!!! Keep the temp around 30 in the top and down to for example 24 in the bottom, and the animals will be, where they find it comfortable.
I keep mine in pairs in cages of 40x50x90 cm (sorry again) This works good.
I have had problems with rackitis. One of my female died because she kept laying eggs, even though she lacked calcium og perhaps another vitamin. Now I use the german "Korvimin ZVT" and Miner-All. This works better. 1 unit of Korvimin, 2 units of Miner-All every time you feed.
Pleas mail to me, if you need any other information. I can provide you with contacts to succesfull keepers, if neccessary.
Regards,
Kristian Poulsen, Denmark.

Damn Nick, that was the dumbest post i have seen on here yet.
If you didnt have an answer why even post! Show me one pet store in North America that has Guntheri!

Anyway Mike, way to go on getting those geckos! Email me when you get some babies going.........Ill take a few.

flamedcrestie Mar 12, 2005 05:47 PM

despite the fact that repeating posts are annoying ( questions about phantasticus caresheets etc.)
guentheri are much more difficult to get information on.

also.... when petstores do have caresheets they rarely are followed by the petstore keeping them and many of the times are incorrect.

travisdank Mar 13, 2005 02:43 PM

Id like to see some pics of the malama and the guntheri too when you get em.

http://www.zoobooksales.com/photogal/sva-urop.htm

That should be a good book to get to compare scalation and such when you get the malama in.

Keep us posted and here is a pic of one of the "long-tailed" ebenaui i have had.
