help choosing snake container

westtexas Mar 11, 2005 11:02 AM

can anyone suggest snake containers that snap shut/tightly? i like to use sweater boxes, but i dont like using clamps or putting heavy weights on top. i am looking for a nice escape-proof sealed lid. the ones at walmart or the container store dont seem to have any that would work well for snakes, thx.

I have seen many of the various Iris boxes used this way. Everything from the smaller shoebox sized products up to the CB-80. They do seem to be the most secure on the market.

Still, it's not something I'd be comfortable doing.

They are sold at The Container Store so I'm guessing you have already seen them. Note that they have a section for their own boxes and the Iris boxes are usually somewhere else. At least they are at the store south of Denver.

I used some rubbermaid sweeter boxs a couple years ago that had those yellow latches. They don't work. Just a tip.
But the tubs are great water bowls for my large Boids.

If I had to do it all over I would by the new racks from vision. Don't get me started on the potential for those racks.

Mine just arrived, I've only had time to stick the pieces together. I have not put in the connecting pins or hooked up the heating system.

Even without the connecting pins this thing is solid and sturdy. It has some design features that are very slick.

My first impression is very, very good.

Chris,
what do you think about the exposed sides and rear. The overall look of the piece is impressive but the cost is an issue with me. The design looks to work in alot of areas, but i question the open frame as welll as the price. Clint

The price seems competitive to me, especially for what you get. But I had some particular needs for my quarantine rack so I did not exactly shop around.

I prefer the open frame, in fact I try to build all my racks that way. At least when I'm not feeling lazy In the case of this rack it allows me to run my misting system - something that is more difficult with a normal rack. Possible, but not easy (I've done it). Of course that has nothing to do with your concern.

I guess Vision has thin panels that run into the extrusion to fill the frame. I did not request these for my rack since I really don't need them. But looking at my rack I see how they could easily be slid into place.
