First time breeder this season... my hypo vanishing male

Conserving_herps Mar 11, 2005 11:55 AM

I'm excited about the prospect of this male... he is even super bright orange a day after shedding (I'll post a new pic next time right after shedding)...and he will be bred with a female vanishing pattern too.

Thanks for looking.

She is also gonna be a first timer... so I might wait until her second shedding to mate her.

Thanks again for looking.

Thanks a lot. It would be interesting to see what they will come up in the future.

Have a good weekend.

Those are some nice snakes Ray,
Hondurans usually don't breed until their second
(and sometimes even third) post-hibernation shed.

My two other females last year (spring/summer 2004) bred only after their first hybernation. And both were about 24 months old. When I get a hatchling, I do not hybernate them on their first winter so they can grow faster. On the second winter season, that becomes their first brumation and when the following spring/summer/fall comes, they are ready to breed after their second shedding. It has always worked for me and a couple of buddies of mine who also have hondurans. I'll keep you guys posted this year of their ability to mate. I'm hoping that the male I have can breed with a proven het for hypo female that bred last year. The female will have to wait around June to mate (after her second shed).... will see.

Thanks again...
