That's the most westerly I've ever seen them. They don't seem to go up past Dillon Road or much west of the Cargo Muchacho/ Chocolate/ Orocopia/ Coxcomb Mountains. Only in the flats, too. Angry and orange from Riverside County.
I thought so, Ive only seen them off 10 around the north side of the salton sea around the Chuckwallas. Have not seen one in San Bernardino county. I think scutulatus take over...

Good question. I agree with the last post. Farthest west that I have seen them are the Chocolate Mts. in riverside Co. My question is for the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County. The books say they are just west of Victorville. What is the farthest west in San Bernardino County that anyone has seen them?
Good ?
While I havent herp't the Ca deserts nearly as much as Az...my position is theyre not there! I was a wildlife manager for 2.5 years along the Rio Colorado & recall even in western Az the atrox were largely absent & specks were the primary crote that would be way down on the bajadas until they mingled w/ the scoots & winders. The only place I remember atrox was in the mesquite brush along the river, I thought the rest of the area was too arid & open for them. I dont believe Ive ever seen a Ca atrox jpg posted either so that must prove it!
Is this for real or did you actually just not go herping while you were there?
Not at all, Ive herpt the el outof that place...fd plenty of rubers/specs/pacifics/winders n scoots.... but never an atrox. Like I said, never saw a jpg of one either....
I believe you guys...but Id like to see a jpg in situ.
Plenty of my friends have caught stuff in places I beat the daylights out of and never saw, but I've never asked them for proof. I could post a photo of a Riverside County atrox but you'd have to take my word that he's from where I say he's from. Better yet: Don't take my word for it and drop my the Mecca canals next time you're there and see for yourself. I don't know what else to tell you that wouldn't be taken as crass, dude.
It'd be worth checking one of the online Ca databases & ck this out...If theres only records from the Salton sink & nothing east near the Az border....mebbe those Mecca atrox are really rubers! Ive seen a handful of atrox looking rubers not much more than ~ 15 miles W of Mecca along the SantaRosas....
