Question for those who have dealt with Pastels.....

ajfreptiles Mar 11, 2005 08:17 PM

To all those who have seen pastel boas....has anyone ever noticed red eyes in any? I had a litter of pastels, and 4 of the 10 pastels have red eyes. It is really hard for me to get a good clear pic, but I am posting this one anyway. If you cannot see the red on your computer, could you just comment on what you have seen in the past. Just a note, these Pastels were from a Salmon litter, and at least 11 out of 22 Salmons show very prominant bold red eyes also. I just have never seen it in the basically normal boas. Thanks Andy

I purchased a trio of pastels from Larry Keller, all three babies had red in the eyes. The only thing is I think the trio I got was not from a hypo breeding. I will try and get pics of my pastels eyes.

I have seen quite a few with red eyes. The eye color tends to be similar(either a darker or lighter shade) of the background color of the snake. I have noticed the color in the eyes just prior to an explosion of color in the body of the snakes. My pastels tend to have very light tan eyes that almost overnight turn bright yellow, with the sheds that follw the eye transformation , the body becomes increasingly yellow as well.
The exception I have seen to that rule is a male yellow that I sold to Joe Lydon that has blueish eyes.
I would bet that the one you posted will be a very pink snake, a keeper for sure.
