Arboreal or Terrestrial???

Doug89 Mar 11, 2005 08:31 PM

I just got a Leucistic Texas Rat Snake. She enjoys climbing i think. In fact my cage came with a socket for a heat (ceramic) lamp and some of the cord was inside the cage and she actually climbed up and i couldn't get her down. I had to remove the fixure altogether just to get her (i was planning on doing it anyway). So what are they Arboreal or Terrestrial or a little of both. If they are either slightly arboreal or arboreal can i place some wooden dowels inside attached to the ceiling for her to climb on (becasue there are 2 holes from the ligth fixture for screws, mine as well put em to work!) Thanks alot!

Doug they don't have to have branches but they'll really enjoy it if you can provide them.

I would put some dowels in there, they enjoy climbing very much. If you put the dowels in there, you'll see your snake a LOT more.

here's how i did a 29 gallon for a black rat

Almost any snake will climb if you give it the chance. If you can get branches in the tank get them in. You will have a happier snake for it.
Thanks Jason

Its true all snakes will climb if given the chance but if their is a group of snakes other than reg arboreals that also need to climb is the rats and corns.
Lots dont give them the room to climb which is sad they love to climb and built for it. He will love the wooden dowels if you use them.
