feeding size....

swani Jul 08, 2003 06:57 PM

I have posted questions about this already and wanted to give an update and hear what you guys think...
My corn is about 32" and about 2 and 1/2" in circumference at biggest girth.('02)

**FEED SCHEDULE: fuzzies weekly, recently 2 at a time...
I should increase size? So recently I bought some adult mice (next step up from fuzzies the chain pet store carries ).Was concerned about size. The lenght more so than girth of the mouse, but worried about both.

**My brother in law cut the mouse in half. Milo got the anterior end down, but took quite a while..a small struggle with the front leg. We then put the posterior end in also..and with a slight struggle got it down.
A large lump, but seemed to digest it fine..with one massive crap..

**MY CONCERN: An adult is too large for him (and I don't know that I can cut the mouse myself..yuk)And could the struggle be too much for him at each feeding?
Would he be able to take it down in one piece?
And by description of size: Should I continue to feed ADULT mice? Or go back to multiple fuzzies? I want to get him fatter..but don't want to cause harm.

Thanks for reading..and will await any opions

Try a whole adult mouse and see how he handles that. I have an '01 not too much bigger - about the same girth and just a couple inches longer - and he has been eating adult mice for me without a problem. It does leave a big lump, but he digests it fine.
Also, maybe the snake looked like it was having trouble swallowing because it is used to smaller meals?

Swani,

According to at least one rodent website there are the following size catagories of mice:

Small & Large Pinkies

Peach Fuzzies

Fuzzies

Hoppers

Weanlings

Large Adults

Jumbo Adults

I feed hoppers to my one corn (about the size of yours) and she takes two per feeding.
My other corn is about half the size and he stil gets fuzzies cuz he regurged a hopper when
I tested him on them.

I buy my mice at the local reptile show (near Cleveland, Ohio) and they carry all sizes at
prices very close to on-line suppliers. I would suggest that you visit your local show to
see if you can do the same. Good luck.......
