Gravid Woma dilema. Will be out of town, Need advice please.

rudedogsurfrat Mar 12, 2005 05:17 AM

I just realised that I may be in Costa Rica for 9 days when my woma MAY drop eggs.
My herping buddies may be with me and the only person around would be my girlfriend who is scared of this particular snake.
Could the eggs wait until I get home for 9 days at the longest, then I could pull them out and incubate them?
How about if she doesn't drop them in the nest box and drops them right over the hottest part of the heat pad?
Sounds like it could be bad.

What I need are some worst case senarios and possible fixes from the expert.

Thanks

Rudy.

You could set up your entire enclosure as an incubator and hope she drops the eggs in nest box, then transfer said eggs to an incubator when you get home - though this will be harder to do.
Or, you could take the snake to another keepers place and let him baby sit while you are gone. Getting the eggs is half the battle, the fun comes with incubation!
Hope this helps.

oh yeah, if she drops them on the hotspot and they sit for a short time they will cook. When my womas are laying, I dont sleep a whole lot....
luck

Usually 22-26 days after the shed, some drop in May some in June, hatch usually around day 65 at 87 degrees. Keep high humidity with little to no direct water contact on eggs, keep a spray bottle tuned to the same temp as the incubator if you need to remoisten material. Cross your fingers. LOL.

Cheers
