Superworms

Hi,

I have a male tokay, and have had him for a year and a half. About 4 or 5 months ago, I switched from crickets to superworms as his primary insect (with crickets and other worms every couple of weeks for variety).

Starting about 3 months ago, I noticed that the frequency with which he goes to the bathroom has been decreasing. Meaning he used to poop every couple of days, and now he does it like every 5 or 6 days. Do superworms increase the risk of constipation? Or do they just generate less waste?

I also noticed that he is drinking less. I assume that this is because the superworms are considerably more juicy than the crickets. Any thoughts on this?

He still looks very healthy. He has a fat tale, he moves all around the cage during the day and night, and his skin is beautiful.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, I forgot the most important parts:

The temp in the cage is 70 at the cold end and up to about 85 at the hot end.

I have the repticarpet stuff in there, so he isn't eating bark or anything like that.

He's about 12 inches long, so I don't think that the superworms are too big for him.

Can obesity contribute to constipation? I think he might be borderline fat.

Superworms have a much higher fat content and less protein content than crickets. I would suggest to start feeding &/or breeding tropical roaches, ie.Blaberus spp. In some cases, Superworms can constipate some reptiles. Your tank for the Tokay may be too cool.
