Hi new here-and an introduction to me and my DI

TequillaAndNemo Mar 12, 2005 09:19 AM

Hi my name is Angie--I am owned by several differnt types of animals....consisting of 6 horses, 2 Hedgehogs, 2 cockatiels, pygmy goat, 5 dogs, 2 cats, 3 california Kings, 2 Veiled Chams, and a Desert Ig--Tequilla

I look forward to learning about better care for my DI on here--as well as my Veileds on the Cham forum.. I have learned quite a bit in just the 15 minutes of reading I have done-it has been VERY hard to find info on my DI. I have had her about 8 months.

Here is a pic of Tequilla. This is a pic when I first got her..she is now moved into a 55 gallon, all to herself, (at least I think she's a she) I would like to find another one if anyone can point me in teh right direction. How do I go about finding out sex?

Thnks, Angela

She doesn't look that bad. My wc caught chuck looked similar at her low point. The change in seasons may work for you now. My wc chuck was extremely picky, but within the last few weeks her appetite has taken off and she's filled out. Since chucks have a lot in common with DI's this might help you.

These are some things that I think have really helped get her acclimated.

Big tank with lots of hides (she's in a 100 up from a 70)

Mercury vapor light (it puts out lots of UV and gets the basking site up to 120)

Covered sides (I covered all four sides except for a little window by the basking area, now that my chuck's up to a good weight, I'm peeling off the front about an inch a week)

Nasturtiums, dandelions, and wild raddish flowers (these are the big favorites, mine prefer the dandelion flowers to the leaves, but seem to attack both naturtium flowers and leaves with equal gusto).

Maybe a deep layer of play sand would help you too. When I've seen wild DI's, they've been in sandy washes. They usually retreat into burrows under rocks. Maybe you could fabricate a little faux underground burrow for her.

looking dead on at the tail area. Maybe someone else can tell from these pics.

Tequila looks fine, pretty iggy!

My Hershey, loves banana chunks, oh try a small hunk, and watch her lick at it and grab it. My chuckwallas love them too!

Also besides the great things Alice listed in her post, my guy loves collard greens, kale, shredded carrot, shredded squash, shredded sweet potato, radishes, alot of greens, and just try different fruits.
