pic of enclosure

you can just see gator peeking down from the top left corner. I cleaned his cage and got all the hard water stains off, so I figured I'd put up a pic.

What did you use to get the hardwater stains off?

polosue25 Mar 12, 2005 01:29 PM

white vinegar--I misted the cage and then dunked my paper towel in some vinegar, and it all came off pretty well with some rubbing...then lots of rinsing with a *slightly* dampened paper towel to get rid of the vinegar smell but not leave more water behind

great looking enclosure! where did you get those cool branches? if they are from outside did you do any special treatment before putting in the tank?

also, if you want to eliminate hard water spots, get reverse osmosis water, basically just the really good purified drinking water, you can usually get it for 25 cents a gallon at the grocery store.

i agree on the water.... or use razor to scrape it off

polosue25 Mar 12, 2005 02:47 PM

I've done the razor thing in the past, it does work but since I don't have a razor and I have vinegar, it works very well for me.
as for the branches, I did find them outside, at the end of the lake in my town, and I soaked them in mild bleach solution, rinsed well and then baked them in the oven at about 300 degrees for a couple hours until they were dry and didn't have any smell. A couple larger branches I had collected were still oozing funny-smelling stuff after baking so I tossed those.
