gldntreefrog3 Mar 12, 2005 01:02 PM

one of my gold tree frogs is bearing itself on the bottom of the tank i thought.... the humidity might be to dry but it is the same as it always is abut 70.... now i dont to much but think the bigger ones are females ... do you think that she might be having babies...but i thought frogs have tadpoles? dont they need a water pool to have tadpoles... i really dont know whats going on it was just a guess.. because i have a smaller gold and i thouhgt it might be a male because of the size... so i just figured maybe they where doing the nasty... and also my really orange colored one is the only one i see eat never the other 2.... i am worried.... please help

First off they are not having babies, golden tree frogs make large foam nests that hang over the water and you usually have to simulate natural cycling of the seasons to induce breeding. They lay eggs that hatch into tadpoles who drp into the water then morph into froglets.
I'm not sure why your frog is burying herself, one of my goldens likes to sit on the ground and the other likes to sit up high.Could be she doesn't feel secure or is stressed from the other frogs, that why frogs need so large cages for being such small creatures.
You could seperate the two that you haven't seen eat into a basic 10 gallon, damp papertowel for flooring, some greenery to hide in and a shallow water dish, maybe a small container of some kind to use like a cave. That is one way to see who is eating what. Most likely they are eating when you aren't looking,I never see my bug one eat but I know she does cause she is gaining weight and pooping.
I will look around and see if I can find any info on goldens sitting on the ground,I know there are a few species of tree frogs that do like to bury in the dirt.
