probably both. the majority of mine breed in their second spring, when they're around 20 months old. the majority of them are also 400 grams when they come out of brumation that spring, and around 500 grams when they're actually mating. (that's for females, males might be slightly smaller out of brumation and do NOT add weight like the females do in the several months between being warmed and copulating)
