Need Help Making a Desert Vivarium

Scientist4life Mar 12, 2005 03:13 PM

I really want to make a natural Desert Vivaria. I plan on using either a 15, 20, or 30 gallon tank (not sure) and I wish it to be as natural as possible. I plan to use several differnt suc[bleep]s and such. I also want to use either 2 leopard geckos or 3-4 species of skink or something. Does any one have any suggestions on lighting, substrate, rocks or decore, or especially what desert lizards would go well in it. Thanks

Im going to say leopards because they are desert dwellers. I think desert is the easiest to make look good. I would use play sand for a substrate. Its really cheap and prewashed. THen shop for some cacti there are a few out there that have soft spines. Try looking for some cholla. It is a log that is skeleton of a cholla cactus. Very cool looking. Look for it on ebay its pretty cheap there. Just search for cholla. And to top it off a coyote skull can look really cool. Again check ebay you should be able to buy one there for about 15.00. I hope this helps. Good Luck

One other thing to consider, if you buy live plants to put in there, I'd recommend you find a organic plant store so you can be sure they haven't used chemical fertilizers or pesticides that make your herps sick.
