Cuban crocodiles and dwarf caiman

odatria72 Mar 13, 2005 01:28 PM

Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to get 3 Cuban crocodile (Crocodylus rhombifer) juveniles. They are around 40cm long. Now I would like to know whether I can put them into the dwarf caiman tank for around six months, till the big enclosure is ready for the Cubans. The dwarf (Paleosuchus palpebrosus) is now 60cm long. The size of the dwarf caiman tank is 8ft x 3ft x 4ft (this is only a temporary enclosure).

best regards from Germany

Arnaud

I wouldn't recommend that because the enclosure is too small for that many animals. The croc's need to have their own territory. The dwarf caiman is a real secreative speceies that like to hide alot.I think you would be better off building another cage for the time being if you want the Cubans. One thing I will tell you is that the Cubans are probably the meanest crocs, even though they don't get very big.I have had some charge me nonstop.Best of luck.I envy you on getting the Cubans.I just received my permit to buy them across state lines. So I'am looking for some.
