Question about albinos......?

repzoo44 Mar 13, 2005 04:08 PM

Do all of the albino hogs we have today come from a single individual or were there a few that have been discovered and bred? Thanks.

There have been several different albinos caught in the wild. In the Uk, I have outcrossed my albinos to normals to improve the quality of thier genes.

While there have been a few wild caught albinos, the gene governing albinism is very weak in the western hognose, and it is necessary to outcross to normals or hets to strengthen the offspring and future breedings.

Since the original albino hogs seem to be week, has anyone bred Albino X Albino from a line that has been outcrossed.

I am working towards that goal.
