We Have Eggs!! Now some ???'s

Gmagecko Mar 13, 2005 04:16 PM

2 of our females laid eggs.We were expecting them and had the incubater set up .I still have a few ??'s.
1)How long between clutches?
2)First time females...will they have only one clutch or multiples?
3)How long after laying can we candle them to see if they are fertile?I know first timers dont always work.
4)After Allie's set of eggs on thrus...we gave her plenty of mealies w/ calcium dusting.(We offered Pinkies and she wanted no part of it.Same for the silkies)Is there any other food to help her build up her stregnth.I know I wanted Pizza after having my kids...but dont think they'd like it much...LOL!
Any input would be helpful...

1- anywhere from 2-4 weeks. My females have always laid every two weeks.
2- I'm not sure about this one, but I've got a female blizzard in her first breeding year, and she's just laid her second clutch, so I'm *guessing* multiple clutches.
3- I've always candled my eggs right before putting them in the incubator. I found that fertile eggs show a pink/red ring somewhere on the side of the egg, where, I'm guessing, the embryo is attached. I don't know how long it takes before you start to see veins, though.
4- I would try butterworms. They're full of calcium, and none of my geckos ever refused them (except my frog eye, who's really picky). Don't know if yours would like it, but it's worth a try.

Good luck with those eggs
