BallPython13 Mar 13, 2005 07:33 PM

Hi, I have a adult normal female ball python that is exactly 1,000gs, Can she breed this coming season or doe's she have to be bigger. I have a adult normal male that I want to breed to her this coming season he is a 2001-2002 cbb 818gs. Can he breed this season to. I hope to breed them and then buy a pastel male. If I buy a pastel male what line should I go for. Thanks Scott

I have 3 ball pythons 1.2 normals one normal female was born between 2000-2001, and the other female is a 2004 normal female I got at a reptile show

Thanks, Philly_nr. I just went to his web site and he has some nice Pastels I like the Graziani Line Pastels are those and good pastel line. And how many eggs do you think my female could lay if I breed her next season???????Shes 44 inches long. What kinds of ball pythons do you have. Thanks Scott Glover

1300 is the bare minimum for breeding and 1500 is recommended. Although you can most likely get her up to 1500 by next breeding season (if shes a good eater) I would wait until after you get your pastel to breed her. There is a good chance that if you breed her next season she may not be back to weight for the following season when you have your pastel and theres not a big market for normals. A small girl will probably produce 4-6 eggs. I'm partial to the Graziani Pastel line myself. Hope this helps.

No, She is not a good eater I bought her as a Wc she only has eaten 2 mice in 2 months that the person I bought her from. I have not tried feed her yeat I am buying some frozen rats this week hopefully she will eat them. I have to breed to my normals to afford a pastel male or if my siberian huskey has pups this year I have two siberain huskeys 1 Black and White male he is a campion line his mom and dad were both campion lines and 1 Red female. And what are the prices for pastels going be in 2006. Thanks Scott Glover

Well - Seeing as she is a WC you may have some work ahead. Hopefully the person you got her from was telling you the truth and she has actually started eating, if so start off feeding her live mice like he did then go to small rats and then to medium (that's what my 1000 gram girls are taking). You can switch to F/T once you get her on a good eating routine. Your next problem is that some imports will not readily breed in captivity (you have a 50/50 chance). Some do, some it takes a couple of years, another reason why some people prefer to raise CB over WC. In 2006 you'll probably be able to get a pastel for about $700 (Just an estimate). That would be about the equivelent of selling off 7 female normals. Hopefully your Siberian will produce for you by then. We recently lost our 16 year old Siberian last month, maybe I'll work out a trade for you in 2006 for one of your Siberians (we'd want a female with one blue eye and one brown LOL). Hopefully I'll have several pastels that season. Good luck, with her!
