PLEASE HELP!

thegeckolady Jul 08, 2003 08:28 PM

Hi everyone,

i got a gecko about 2 months ago, it was small and looked young.
it did't eat for about a week and then started to hunt. it also was living with 4 other older females. I noticed about a week ago that the gecko was not eating and not even coming out when food was served. So separated it, and now she is still not eating a thing, she is about 4 months and weights only 27 grams
she is not lathargic, but quite docile. i have no idea what could be wrong. if anyone knows please let me know.
and yes there is proper heat at 88 on the warm side.
and i have tried switching foods from crix, to superworms, to mealies.

thanks

Did you quarantine the gecko from your others before putting her in? If the other females were/are bigger than she is, she might be scared/intimidated. How are the other geckos doing? If you just separated her from them, environment change might have stressed her out and she's not eating for that reason.

hi,

they have been together for 2 months ever since i purchased them. All the others are fine. She stopped eating in the cage with the larger females thats why i separated her. She is not lathargic but alert and intersted in her surroundings. I just saw her walking and licking calcium. Fecal? what fecal, she hasn't eaten a thing i can't get one!

thanks!

If your husbandry is good you might need to have a fecal done on her if you haven't yet. Sounds like she might have either parasites or coccidia if she is lethargic and not eating. If it does check out she has either parasites or coccidia you will probably have to have the other leos checked since they were housed together. This is why it's always a good idea to quarantine any newbies for at least 30 days (60-90 is better).
