color question.....

clay2003 May 16, 2003 01:04 PM

we just got a corn snake that has a creamy white base color, with rust and black markings. All in all, looks like a "light" colored snake, ( as opposed to a "dark" colored snake)I haven't measured yet, but appears to be appx. 27. in long. The poor little guy is scarred up a little, like a dog or somthing got ahold of it, but I guess it healed. I am VERY new to snakes, but my son LOVES them dearly, and is VERY dedicated to owning 2 so I am helping him be the best and MOST knowledgable he can be. ( I think in a few years, he may even run a snake rescue!!) would a snake that size eat adult mice?? medium sized mice? I think it seems long to still eat pinkies. It seems to be a thin snake, but I don't know if it is thin "for a snake". Also, I have gotten many good books, but there seems to be people saying they DO need the "daylight" bulb, and some say it is only lizzards that need it. BY they, I am refering to the Corn snake, and we are getting a Rosey Boa also. Any help for this AWSOME, future reptile dude and his mom will be GREATLY appriciated. ) PLEASE reply to......ndmny@rock.com.... or here.

Check any of the sponsors of this forum, Corn-Utopia or serpenco, or south mountain reptiles. All of them have pictures of each cornsnake "morph" Sounds like your's is probablt a young 2, maybe small because of previous treatment?

The BEST book and the one you'll read about in here a lot is the Corn Snake Manual by kathy Love. it's available all over now, and on her website (corn utopia). There's pictures of the varieties in there as well.

Corns don't need the speciall lighting lizards do, a nice day night cycle is good, but they can get that from the window light in the room. I believe the consensus in under tank heaters. (heat rocks can cause burns)

Hope that helped a little
Corns are great snakes
