Hi, Is anyone still into california kingsnakes.......................more

BallPython13 Mar 13, 2005 10:27 PM

Hi, Is anyone still into california kingsnakes, I will be breeding 1.2 california kingsnakes this year and it will be my first time I breed them, my male is a banded lavender albino and one female is aberrant 100% het. for Albino and the other female is a desert banded, I know when a lavender albino is bred to a desert banded female it will produce all 100% het. lavender albinos but what if I breed my lavender albino male bred to a aberrant 100% het. for albino female (the female is not het for lavender albino she is het for albino)will produce 100% het. lavender albinos 100% het. for aberrant and 50% possible het. for albino (possible triple het), I hope to produce the first triple het california kingsnake in captivity. I will be breeding some of the males and females from this clutch back together within a year or 2. need some thoughts Thanks Scott Glover

There are triple hets already in captivity. Soon quad hets will be available as well.
Aberrancy is not a trait that can be considered as a recessive gene and normal offspring from aberrant parents cannot be called hets for aberrants.
Breeding a lavender to a normal het albino will produce all normals statistically, but you may be suprised when you get some lavenders from the pairing. The lavender X normal banded will produce normals that are 100% lavender.
Calkings traits are not as predictable as, lets say brooksi or honduran traits.
I personally have bred calkings for the last 5 years. From one pairing of plain old normal banded calkings I have only produced one aberrant offspring and that occured just last year.
I am breeding a blonde striped male to three different females this year. He will be paired with two normal desert banded females and one hypo het for blonde (or lavender albino?).
Normal looking offspring from this last pairing will be possible triple hets for blonde, hypo and or lavender albino....Not het for striped or banded or desert or coastal phase..
I hope this helps.
Kerby at Lonesome Valley Reptiles is producing many triple hets this year and should have some quadrupel hets next year.
I am sure he can help you out in the calking area much better than I.....

Cut and paste this link and you will see some of the best calkings on the market.
Prices vary. You will get an idea from Kerby's site.
And there still are some of us calking breeders around. It is actually getting more interesting as of lately.

Here is a recent pic of my striped blonde male "hooked up" with a desert banded female.

One more thing, what size can a california kingsnake male and female breed at my male is a 2004 he is 30gs He growing like a weed when I bought him is was 15gs, and the one female is 60-70gs and the other female is 70-80gs can they breed at that size. I am buying some fuzzy and pinkie rats and mice. And The one female is 23 inches long and the other one is 25-26 inches long and there both about 2 1/2-3 years old. Should I feed them pinkie rats to make her grow faster. Thanks Scott Glover

Those are pretty good sized snakes for their age. They should be ready to breed next year, in the spring of 2006.

Hey Scott,
Nice to dee someone else with my same predicament. I am also breeding my 1.2 cal-kings and am unsure of the genetics in volved. My male is a reverse stripe, my big female is a banana phase, and my smaller female is a pure black and white regular stripe. Anyways its good to see someone else that is doing the things i am and asking the same questions. As a sophmore in high school cal kings are all im allowed to keep so theyre my focus now and i am definetly into them.

Peace,
Micah
