Enviroment question????

MacArthur Jul 08, 2003 08:36 PM

Does anyone know if it's okay to keep a leopard gecko without a heat lamp for about 2 weeks? Is the under tank heater enough?

Yes UTH is enough. Leopard geckos don't really need a heat lamp since they get their heat through their belly. I use heat strips for all my leos without any heat lamp.

Thanks. I'm getting my first gecko on Saturday, so I'm new to this.

if you need to keep your leos without a dome lamp for 2 weeks that will be fine as long as the UTH is providing enough belly heat. Take the temps inside the enclosure and if its not anywhere between 88-90 F then you will need to get a dome light to raise the temp.

as long as the UTH keeps the floor of the tank at 87 to 90 degrees they will be fine. They will lay right on the heat they use it for digestion. I never use a heat lamp only in the cold months of the winter.-Geeboo
