What do I do with my new baby?

cfgirl00 Jul 08, 2003 08:37 PM

A co-worker of mine just returned from a trip in North Carolina and she discovered a stow-away in her trunk...a baby green tree frog. I already have 2 adults, and a RETF in a 35 gallon tank. I adopted the baby and he is in a small tank by himself now. He is eating well and steadily growing. The baby is not even 1 inch, and I would like to put him in the big tank, but I am afraid my adults will mistake him for food and eat him. How long should I wait? Any advice on caring for the baby. I never had a froggie this small before.

dont mix the baby with the adults until he himself is an adult most tree frogs will eat other frogs if there hungry anyways never mind a lil tree frog

Yeah, don't mix the baby with the adults. Wait until it's about as big as the others. Also, are you sure it's a green tree frog? Squirrel tree frogs look very similar, but are smaller. If it's a squirrel, it'll never be able to be with adult GTFs.

BTW, RETFs and GTFs shouldn't be mixed. They don't require the same conditions, for one, and I've *heard* that RETFs have noxious skin to other species of frogs, from very reliable sources. The RETFs are much more sensitive, too. Maybe if you don't want to buy another tank, you could divide it or something, because I think it's not a good idea at all to mix the RETFs and the GTFs (and I'm not a no-mixing Nazi who thinks you should never mix, it's just not a good idea in some cases). Good luck, btw.
