Not 2Night Hunny... i got a head ache!

ZFelicien Mar 14, 2005 08:06 AM

LOL

Seriously ... I introduced my male Brooksi to my Goini female yesterday, (since she shed Saturday night)... he was super interested, he tried to "hold her down" a few times by "grabbing" her behind the head (neck) but she wouldn't sit still she just kept whipping her tail, so after about 45 minutes I separated the two... Now, he seemed fine when I went to bed but when I woke up this morning he was going crazy, he keeps circling his enclosure and he's rubbing his noise on sumthing cuz his noise is all red looking.

Question:

When should I reintroduce the pair?

when is it too late (i.e. how long after a shed is too late to introduce the pair)

Is there any way to get this lil guy to calm down?

I'm getting another male (a Goini ... hopefully in a week), how soon after introducing her to one male can I introduce her to another if she's not responsive to the first male?

put them back together. i have seen this behavior and eventually he will wear her down and she will mate with him.

that is assuming that she is "ready".

Has she shed yet since brumation?

thanx
she shed on saturday night, she's been out of brumation for approx. 2weeks.

I agree with Peter. Please LEAVE them together. This is natural behavior and you might miss your window for breeding. I am sure some of the things us homo sapiens want to to do females might be considered unatural by some prudes as well.

If you feel to violated by watching their behavior THEN DON"T WATCH! LOL!

The only reason you should seperate is if the male shows no interest or if one or the other is trying to kill the other for food. Otherwise if the male is all over her you are golden.

i think i missed it.... i thought she'd just keep up the struggle so i separated the two. i introduced them after i read the post from "sweetpickle" but he doesn't seem interested any more... any thoughts?

One thing you should be careful of is if you are using 2 different males on one female and they are different subs you better make sure you know who the father of the clutch is. It may be obvious after they hatch or it may not. I suggest you pick one male and stick with him unless he cannot get it done but even then you may have missed copulation as they dont always lock up for hours it can be minutes. I just think it would be a shame if you do get a Goini to breed to your female Goini and then have doubts on the offspring being from the Goini Father because of previous introduction of a male Brooksi.

I sat there the entire time watching the two in a power struggle. there was no copulation. the male Goini I'm getting is "patternless" so his offspring should stand out.

But thanx for the advice.

do you have any clue as to how long after a shed would it be too late to introduce the pair?

Just because the male you are getting is patternelss doesnt mean anything. Blotched looking babies come from patternelss animals. Patternless animals dont always start off patternless but become so as adults. My point is dont look at the babies to determine the parentage but know what animals you use, its just responsible breeding especially if you plan to sell offspring.

I will work something out with you to get you the male Goini on time to breed your girl. I told you I am not in this for the money as much as I am in this cuz I love these animals. Please email me or give me a call.
