Kingsnake breeding behavior?

cknott1048 Mar 14, 2005 08:13 AM

I have a pair or kingsnakes that were just brought out of brumation about a week and a half ago. They have eaten, and are of good health. When introduced together they start pulseing and chaseing eachother. They are also biteing eachother. Is this normal breeding behavior?

Until BOTH have shed.

Usually they will mate immediately after both have shed.

Save both shed skins and put them in with the snakes when you put them together.

You are probably wasting your time until they both have shed... Just my opinion and I have only been doing this for a few years.

They are in different cages now, and i will keep in mind the shedding thing, Thank you.The albino is a proven male, and the common i have been assured is a female. It will be her first breeding.

It doesnt matter if the male sheds its the female thats key. A shed in a female signals a possible cycle of ovulation in a male its nothing but a shed. Brumation is said to be imporstant for males for healthy sperm production (I dont know i this is true or not). So as long as your girls shed thats all you need us males are always ready to go to work ! lol

P.s. If males arent showing interest it may because the female isnt kicking out a lot of pheromones yet so sometimes placing a shed skin in with the male from the female can get him going as can misting the tank they are in together ca also enhance any subtle scents.
