Begging behavior

ew1074 Mar 14, 2005 10:44 AM

I've had my RES for a year and a half now and he still drives me nuts with this begging behavior. Do they ever outgrow this? He's big enough now that he makes a pretty loud splashing noise, and it's very annoying. Will he do this all his life?

Mine's about 13 and still does it when I show him food. They're apparently very good at recognizing things (like his food can).

I have a few 2 year old rescues that go crazy whenever they see me, or any human for that matter. I've also have a few older turtles that will do this, so this action is not just due to a young age. They will follow you and try their best to climb out of the enclosure after you. Nope, they don't outgrow this. Once a turtle is humanized, it's usually hard to break. ~Christy

And the funny thing is, my RES are nothing compared to my black-knobbed sawbacks! My sawbacks struggle like crazy to climb, crawl or swim out of their cage whenever I come near. They act like they're never fed even though they are probably the most pampered turtles on the planet!!
