Incubation Info

herperboy Mar 14, 2005 10:55 AM

My female ball is gravid, and going to lay eggs in the next month. I got a hovabator and have it set up in a closet. Im getting a dual prob thermometer to check the temps. What sxhould the temp be if I am trying to get females. I don't mind waiting longer if that means i will get more females. Also i need to know humidity and the best way to set them up. I have deli cups and vermiculite at the moment. So any, and all info would be great. If im successful this year, then i am going to get a female pastel over the summer. Happy herping.

Hi there,

Congrats on your upcoming clutch! Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, there does not seem to be a correlation between incubation temps and hatchling sex in BP's. I'm afraid you are at the mercy of the ball python gods, just like the rest of us! I set my incubator at 89.5 - good luck!

Hopefully i will get a female or two out of the clutch. Thanks for the info. Would still like to know what a good humidity is and what the best substrate to put the eggs on in the incubator.

A good (only) humidity to successfully incubate ball python eggs is 100%. With regards mediums for incubation, many have been successfull with a no-substrate aproach, while most (myself included) still opt for the perlite/vermiculite mix.
