Have a question about medication...more

bmills Jul 08, 2003 08:51 PM

I was giving my leos medication for protozoans, only one had it, but they live together so I gave the medication to 2 of them. The one that wasn't sick took the medication fine, but then after she was really shaky and it seemed close to seizures, like she had a reaction. She still eats fine and has a nice plump tail...and the sick one after the first time got her appitite back and is much more active, I was suppose to give the medication for 5 days, then stop for 2 weeks, then give more for 5 days again. I am on the second set of 5 days, and I am just giving it to the one that was sick because hte other one freaks out and gets all shaky and bites in mid air and just acts realy wierd when she has it. Does this sound okay to do, since the one is still healthy wiht a plump tail. Please let me know.

You didn't mention what type of drug it was. If Flagyl, a second dose isn't always required, particularly if his fecal was clean to begin with, so it should be fine...and considering his reaction, safer. Are you sure the doseages are right?

Yea, the dosage is correct. The sick leo reacted fine, but the one that we were doing it for precatious reasons did not. It was like she was allergic. She was twitching, very shaky, bitting into mid air, bitting the sides of the tank, stuff like that, when she normally comes out of her hides to see what I'm doing in the room, and will come to my hand when I put it in the tank, and is a pain to get off my hand, she loves to be held. So I thought it to be much safer to not give her the second dose.
