Monitors (big lizards), including these five types: water, black throat, white throat, crocodile and Nile.
does this mean all monitors or just those bc it doesnt say argus monitors so that mean i can have one right

Argus are fine to keep in NY

if you dont like argus aggressive nature go with an argus flavi cross there are some in the classifieds, they generally stay smaller and generally not as cracked out as argus lol

reptilefreak101 Mar 14, 2005 03:13 PM

smaller do they get i heard male adult argus get like 4.5-5.5 ft so what do the other ones get like 4

or what do they need the same size cage, are they cheaper than pure argus

thanks

flavi argus crosses are 125 there are some on the classifieds right now. A friend of mine has a nice male for sale 200 but its about 2 or 3 foot ....they will not get past the size or even equal the size of a male argus.

good luck

SHvar Mar 14, 2005 09:58 PM

Argus get from 3-5ft long, and flavi-argus crosses Ive heard 3-4ft or so.

varanio Mar 14, 2005 11:25 PM

actually crosses are a bit cheaper now about 125- 175 i still see argus for 200 and above.

SHvar Mar 15, 2005 02:42 AM

If they look more like an argus, and are dull they go cheaper. If they are brightly colored, light colored, more resemble the flavi, etc they will have a very high price on them, somewhere to the tune of $400-$1200. Also depends how fast the seller or breeder wants to sell them, remember they eat alot.

varanio Mar 16, 2005 12:25 AM

those prices seem way to steep for todays market maybe when they were first being produced and flavis were selling for about 1k each maybe the 400 was reasonable amount for a cross back then.....those gems you see here I got them right in the middle of that time .....when frank produced a clutch of exquisite hatchlings ....they were nowhere near that price range. have a look in the classifieds yourself ....the price does not exceed 200 unless they are proven adults.

I wouldn't know about the pretty colors. My argus is always covered in dirt. But I think it is pretty, dirty.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

I agree. It seems that crosses are cheaper than pure Argus now. There seems to be so many crosses for sale now.

I have 2 Argus and both are bright yellow, when they are not covered in dirt. They are gorgeous animals.

These heat lamps make my electric bill to high.

A large species, argus are not a large species, if not listed then get and argus or argus flavi cross.

LIZARDLOVER11 Mar 14, 2005 04:19 PM

bt and wt are illegal though, yes it's pizards.com this site got me into arguses.

drzrider Mar 14, 2005 08:21 PM

I think the cage size should be wider than this site says. It does have some good info though.

They sell imports, like 99% or more of them available. Argus are alot easier to find CBB. Btter yet get a flavi-argus cross, you know they are CBB and they dont get as big.
I remeber BTs are illegal in NY, WTs, water monitors, croc, etc.I dont know about argus.

Arguses are most definitely legal in NY (I live in upstate New York, I own arguses, and I have been following the progress of the law quite closely). With the cost of heating them in winter over here, though, there's probably no need to make them illegal - the electric and gas bills will drive all argus owners to Florida!

I have written a bit about monitors I've had experience with on my site pizards.com/hbd/, including arguses. The care information can be found at pizards.com/hbd/tricks.html.

Good luck

Luke
