vtec Mar 14, 2005 02:30 PM

Just wondering what little tricks you guys have for a good humid hide. I want something that will last the longest without having to re-dampen the material inside. What kind of containersubstrate? Thanks

I use a tupperwear container and i cut a hole in the lid or side and burn the edges of the hole to smooth them. I use a few sheets of damp paper towels. I only have to change the paper towels once every 3 or 4 days (or when they get pooped on!)

personally i use a tupperware with a hole cut in the side and tape put over the edges of the hole. I place the hole high enough so that the feeder crickets can't get in and low enough that the geckos can get in easily.

As for substrate i use moisened vermiculite. This i have to remoisen every other day but i like it since my girls can lay their eggs in it too!

I use a small sterilite container with moistened vermiculite in it. I mist the vermiculite every three days or so. Both the males and females use it, and the females lay eggs in it.

I have an old bonsai tree planter filled with this spongy moss stuff. It retains the water really well, and no worries about my leo ingesting it. She has shed twice since I got her, and the humid hide worked really well.

I use a green (holiday) ziplock container with a rectangular hole in the side with the sharp parts covered by tape, Inside of the hide I put a small smooth rock (not polished) to asist with sheding and to make it humid I use peat moss, Which works very well.
