Boaphile with heat built in are designed to give you a 95-99 degree hot spot (belly heat) in a room temp setting (70-77.) If it gets a lot colder than that the heat won't cut it-it's the low wattage type (safe.) If you put it in a shed or some room with no air conditioning in the summer, run a thermostat for sure. Probably not a bad idea to run a 30 dollar thermostat regardless. I was so impressed with the Boaphile design, I build a huge wooden cage with the same characteristics for my female BCI.
