"Strange Blue Dropping"

snakeSmith Mar 14, 2005 06:48 PM

Hi,

Does anyone have a clue what's up with this waste? It's fairly bright blue with tiny black specs throughout. My het. pied male dropped it today. His waste is normally the standard brown that most snakes leave. He has not eaten in a few weeks, but besides that there is nothing else notable. Thanks for your replies!

Don't know what to think?

im going to go out on a limb and say that it POSSIBLY looks like you have ur snake in a sterilite/rubbermaid container which alot of times comes with a blue top i have seen rats chew off the inner stability flaps of my containers blue covers, rare, but i have seen it maybe the rat ate it and ur snake ate the rat and it was just indegestible matter that ur snake pooped out

Pretty reasonable thought, but my tubs don't have any covers on them (which are white), and my snakes all eat f/t. Thank you for your input though.

Where did you get the frozen thawed from? A reputable company? Just asking. Is the turd hard? If it is, could it possibly be some sort of tumor that was in the food that the snake couldn't digest? Perhaps maybe something, as was stated in the other post, some type of plastic the rat may have injested before being killed and frozen from whoever you bought the food from?

This is an interesting thing.....

All my rodents are from RodentPro. He hasn't eaten in atleast a few weeks though. Upon inspection, I noticed the dump was kindof mushy like playdoe texture, almost gritty too. Don't know what to think? I'm wondering if it is simply a color produced by stomach acids, etc. on an empty stomach.

Thanks everyone!!!

What is that white mass in the center? It does not look like urates. Are they flat and how long after fecal deposit did you notice. They move, but ever so slowly. It looks like cestodes (tapeworms).

Good eyes Jay... I'm no expert, but a fecal would be in order... it's not that expensive to get it checked out by a vet.. but the thing in a good zip-lock or freezer bag and keep the whole thing referigerated until you get it to a vet.

as far as the blue stuff, I have no clue.. perhaps the vet would have an idea what that was as well..

Keep us posted!
Bristen.

Good eye? I can see three worms.

Take that animal to the vet.

Thanks everyone for your replies! The worm-looking thing on top of the brownish mass is actually a sperm plug. I pulled it away and checked it out very carefully. You can't see the whole thing in the pic, but it is the usual U-shaped plug. He has produced many plugs, but I never get them this way! He has had a fecal done about 3months ago and it was clean. Just really concerned with the blue goo! I threw it out now though, assuming it's just one of those things.
Thanks again,
Glenn
