Trimming nails....

I have heard many things but my girls nails are getting long and i dont know if i should try and file them down or just cut them with my nail cutters different vets told me different things any good advice??? Thanks a lot Ryan

...they need them for climbing and gripping. They will only be sharp when you handle him, which should be minimal. Never pull him off anything as you can rip a nail.

Yeah i know not to do that but my girls nails are really long! i wasnt going to like cut them all the way off but they look like they could be trimmed down a little bit but should i not do that eather?? Thanks for the reply! Ryan

Hi Ryan - as far as I know there really is no need - is she getting around OK? Just like a cat's (outdoor) claws they will be maintained by climbing, scratching, etc. Indoor cat's need to have theirs clipped (I do mine monthly) but I have never seen a need to clip Luna's. here, do a claw length comparison - lol!

Ok thanks i just thought i did because the pet store said when i baught her a year ago that i would need to trim her nails down a little bit in a year or two so i wasnt sure but its not the first time that a pet store has told me TOTALLY OUT THERE information. It might help to put some thicker branches (thicker than her feet can wrap completely around) in her cage so she has to really dig in her claws to climb it. This may help keep the very sharp tip worn slightly more. Works for birds too.

Yeah Ive got a few thick branches around her tree and the ones leading to her basking spot are a lot thicker than her hands but shes not really climbing on those shes more just walking i guess. I will add some thicker branches THANKS A LOT!!! Ryan
