Ball python cage finished

Just thought I'd share. I peek my head in from time to time but seldom post. I think I'd have more questions then answers. In an effort to answer some question before they are asked, this cage cost me $338 in material alone. That even includes the silicone to seal the edges. It took about 10-12 hours to build, probably allot more but I can't remember, but I am pleased with the finished product. The outside corners are mitered and bradded so you don't see any screws etc. The lid opens for adjusting the lights, RHP. There are no vents. The space between the sliding glass doors and between each door and the edge are enough. It holds heat and humidity well. Believe it or not the light to the right has a small white bulb in it. The glass is frosted and it still puts a basking temp of 94 right underneath it. The light to the left is a blacklight for at night. I bought a photo cell switch so the black light will only come on when it's dark out. Not installed yet as I have to test it before mounting. The floor is vinyl and really easy to keep clean. The only thing I need to adjust is the wires in the cage. They are tucked up good but the snakes always use them as a perch. No-Go! I'll make new holes and secure the wire very soon.

looks awesome man. and if you're still wanting to get rid of that flexwatt, let me know i'll gladly take it off your hands

I was wondering about that photo cell you have for the blacklight. Is this just like a plugin type photocell or what? Did you just get it at your local hardware store or did you find it at an online specialty place? I'll be very interested to see how this hooks up.

Great job!

Amazing what it costs to build a cage from quality materials.
I have priced out some of my designs, and it was actually cheaper to buy a cage.
I am finishing one now. A aboreal enclosure for my monkey tail skink. About $350.
And my next design is an 8ft cage divided into two.
One side housing a ball, the other a BRB.I can build that one cheaper than buying. But it is gonna mighty heavy.

The cages you built are built out of quality material not to mention how you wanted them.
The ready made plastic style cages out there are nothing compared to the cages people build for themselves which incliudes heating, lighting, etc.
The way you want them. Ofcourse I assume a person knows what they are doing. My first cage was 36 inches long and cost over 200 to build and in that case I should have just bought a 36 inch presicion, etc cage.
Which I did later lol considering my cage was an eyesore .
