1 hatchling on day 79

JM Jul 08, 2003 09:26 PM

Well, I've got ONE little hatchling, and I think it may be the smallest snake I have ever seen. This is my first hatchling, but isn't this little guy even smaller than they should be?

It and one other hatched on July 1st (day 79 of incubation) while I was out of town. So I missed it. The other one was kinked and did not live out the day (according to my sister that was home). This one looks to me like it may have a small kink in the neck, but I am hoping I am mistaken about that. It shed today, so I put a pinkie head in with it. It looked interested for a bit, but did not eat it yet.

I've got an itty bitty one too.

This one was in an egg that appeared to be bad. I opened the egg but the baby looked dead. I set it off to the side but then noticed it twitching. It pulled out of it when I set him up in a deli cup and appears to be doing OK.
I've never dealt with one this small so I don't have any advice.........YET!

I have one thats destined to be a shrimp like that. All the eggs were normal size from my orange candy cane female except for one. Its tiny. Viable, but tiny. I have kept a few of the runts over the years and I personally think they eat better in the long run. Its like they have this extra drive to survive. Pinkie parts for a couple of meals or super small newborns are your best bet. Thanks. Mike Panichi

I have a small baby...couldn't be more than 8-9 inches long, and I have yet to get her to eat. She was born on 6/13 and shed on the 23rd but still isn't interested in food. I've offered her a live tiny pink 3 times, a frozen/thawed pink...and even brained it. (That was the most disgusting thing I've ever done. Blah!) She still didn't want it. I even openned her mouth and tried to shove it in thinking the brain taste would trigger something. She still didn't want it. I'll give her a few more days and try again with another frozen/thawed but if she wont take it again, I'm going to have to force her, really force her. I want her to make it and she's starting to stress me out. She's almost a month old. She should be hungry by now!
