Mating Behavior??

LloydHeilbrunn Mar 14, 2005 10:13 PM

First attempt at breeding: OK, my female Eastern shed last night so I put him in with her tonight. Not a whole lot of action,a bit of hissing and mouth gaping by him(very abnormal) and tail shaking by her(pretty normal, but more vertical than usual). No chasing and no attempts to couple as far as I could see.Good news,no obvious feeding behavior or striking either. I separated after 45 minutes.

So: Do I try again tommorrow? Keep them together longer or overnight? Tommorrow is normal feeding day,do I feed, and try another day? Any tricks to stimulate them(Soft music?)

Thanks in advance.

I would wait about 4 days, feed, then introduce them again.

Good luck.

your description of the tail "more vertical" might be telling...a female that's really ready to breed, and receptive, will raise her tail so high it virtually exposes her open cloaca. If that's what you're seeing, then i would suggest she's ready and he's not yet. No need to try them daily, every 3-4 days like kerby recommends is fine.
