3 Leos in 20GL Question

kfactor Mar 15, 2005 03:50 AM

I have 2 leos right now in 20 G Long one male albino and one female normal now my setup on the cool side i have a large hide and a second level with a small hide on it now on the warm side i have a large cave hide and med-large ceramic log hide my question is with all these hides i have would it be ok to put another female Leo in this tank since people say that a 2 Female - 1 Male is better than 1 Female - 1 Male ratio? I know most people say 10 G per leo but i have all these hides so would it be ok?

That's fine. Since it's a long tank and not tall, it gives more space.

Hey there!
Yeah, you should be fine. I've kept three leos in a 20 long and they did just fine. I provided them with a large humid hide and plenty of cork bark to hide under. Just make sure that the male is not harassing the female too much.
Good Luck!

well I think it would be fine, now I have a question, do you find that your male will breed or try to mate with the females often or is it not a problem in terms of eggs? I mean is it controllable in your tank or are females getting pregnant without your consent if you will,

Well my leos are only about 5 months old and the normal female is a little bigger than the albino male and ive never seen anything happen or any behaviour problems now that theyve grown up more. But no she has never had eggs i doubt she can at this age anyway

Like I said, you should be alright with the three together, but 5 months is too young of an age to house them together. If the female became gravid too young, it could be dangerous.. Just wait until they are all at breeding age(Females at least 12 months, males at least 9-10 months). Good luck.
