is this a captive animal that escaped? if so take a 2 liter bottle, clean it out, put a fuzzy or pinky or whatever size in there and leave it overnight with a red heat light on it.

I just want one for caching wild snakes
I'd say the best wild snake catching device would be turning over rocks trying to find one then grabbing it! as long as you're 100% sure it's not venemous. The problem with a live snake trap (if there is one out there even) is that you dont konw what youll catch, and if it is venemous you're in for a nasty suprise!

Snake traps are usually (if not always) illegal. Most states seem to have legislation that snakes may only be caught by hand or a handheld device.

huh, they dont ban that here. lol If you are looking to catch ANY (this inclueds venomous) good sized snake.
Best way I have seen is to tie a string to a fresh killed mouse and then tie the other end the string to a hide box. Making sure the snake doesnt have room to go into rocks or anything whre it will get caught. And you would need to put it out just before sunset and check it first thing in the morning so' not to risk the snake getting caught out in the heat and dying. And of course make sure our hide box is secured to something so the snake wont drag it off. lol
Snake eats mouse, swallows string, gets stuck. There ya have it. Most people put the dead mouse IN the hide box.
Hide box will give snake some protection from the elements till you come get it.
BE CAREFUL!!! Dont get yourself bit by anything venomous.
Have fun.

thanks! Crazy ZooLady I will try that once it gets worm enough out side!
I have used minnow traps from acadamy before to catch snakes in tall grass. I got the idea from accidently catching a water snake one day.

I consulted the Idaho Dept of Fish and Game over the phone and as of last March it is now illegal to use traps for snakes or other herps in Idaho. Reptiles and amphibians may only be collected by hand or a with a hand held device. What is interesting in Idaho is that they have listed all species as protected. You may still collect/possess up to 4 of any given species unless it has a more specific status, such as endangered, where the bag limit is less. A hunting license is required to collect reptiles and amphibians. Most states require a fishing license or specific non-game license. The non-game coordinator told me that Idaho's laws were aimed in part at curbing commercial activity.
